Welcome — Ready to Start
Why use Trezor for your crypto security?
Safety, control, and simplicity
What this guide covers
Overview
This presentation is a friendly, practical walkthrough for setting up your Trezor hardware wallet using the official start page at Trezor.io/Start. It explains the steps clearly so you can initialize and secure your device, recover a seed if needed, and connect to wallets and services safely. The content aims to be accessible for beginners while also offering tips for intermediate users who want to adopt stronger security practices.
Before you begin
Checklist — what to have on hand
Essentials
Device, cable, and a secure location
Offline or private environment recommended
Unbox your Trezor and keep the USB cable ready. Choose a clean, private work area—preferably not a shared or public network—because the initial setup involves writing down a recovery phrase. Have a pen and the recovery card or a safe notebook. Avoid storing the phrase on a phone or cloud note. Also ensure your computer is updated and runs only trusted software while you complete the setup.
Open Trezor.io/Start
Use the official website
Why the website matters
Verify the URL & certificate
Don't follow links in emails
Always go directly to https://trezor.io/start
by typing it into the browser or using a saved bookmark. Phishing sites mimic the design but not the certificate. Confirm the padlock icon and the site's security certificate details in your browser. Never click links from unsolicited emails or messages claiming to help you set up the device.
Install required software
Bridge or Suite
Which option to choose
Browser Bridge vs. Trezor Suite app
Compatibility notes
Follow the prompts on the start page. You may be asked to install Trezor Suite (desktop) or a browser bridge component. Choose the option that fits your operating system and preferences. The Suite offers a polished interface and frequent updates, while the browser flow is quick for one-off interactions. Make sure the downloads come from trezor.io and check file signatures when available.
Connect your device
Detecting the hardware
Follow on-screen prompts
Confirm model & firmware
Do not use unofficial cables
Plug the Trezor into your computer using the supplied USB cable. The start page will detect the device and display the model. If firmware is missing or outdated, the site will instruct you to install or update it—do this only through the official workflow. Never accept firmware updates from unknown sources. When updating, allow the device to complete the process without interruption.
Initialize & create a wallet
New device flow
Create a new wallet
Set a PIN and backup seed
Write the seed down carefully
Choose "Create new wallet" when prompted. The device will generate a recovery seed (a series of words) offline. Write these words exactly and in order on the recovery card. Do not enter them into the computer. You may be asked to confirm words by selecting them on the device screen. Set a strong device PIN that you will remember but that is not easily guessable.
Understanding the recovery seed
Security and recovery
Why it's critical
Storage best practices
Shamir and multi-part options
The recovery seed is the master key to your funds. If you lose the device but retain the seed, you can recover assets on a new compatible wallet. Store the seed in a secure physical location—fireproof safe, bank deposit box, or split between trusted locations. Consider using Shamir Backup (if supported by your model) to split the seed into multiple parts for extra protection.
Confirm and test
Small test transaction
Verify addresses
Use a small amount first
Check addresses on-device
After setup, send a small test amount to an address displayed by your Trezor to confirm everything is correct and the device shows the receiving address. Always verify the receiving address on the hardware device screen itself before sending funds. Once confirmed, you can transfer larger amounts. Keep transaction records and be mindful of network fees.
Maintenance & updates
Keep firmware and software current
Routine checks
Beware of scams and social engineering
What to do if compromised
Regularly check for firmware and Suite updates. Only apply updates through the official site. Remain cautious of unsolicited contact asking for your seed or PIN—Trezor will never ask for these. If you suspect compromise, move funds to a new wallet with a freshly generated seed and consider consulting security professionals.
